Welcome to the home of the Fanitullen cats. I live on the outskirts of Arendal, a town in the south of Norway. A couple of years back we moved from a small flat in the town of Kristiansand (also southern Norway) to a nice house with a big garden. The cats just love it! In the summer we built them a 50 m2 catrun. And finally - 3 years later, we made a tunnel from the house so the cats can come and go as they please.
My interest in the Norwegian Forest Cat started when I was a little girl. Due to my mothers fondness of cats we have allways had one or two cats for as long as I can remember. Once, she went away for the weekend and when she came home she had this tiny, little lovely tortie and white kitten with her. This was back in 1978 and NRR had just started to find cats that would fit the new Norwegian breed of cats acknowledged in 1977 by FIFe, namely the Norwegian Forest Cat. I remember being allowed in with my mother to a room with some very serious men and women who after some discussion decided that our Skrållan was to be a proper Forest cat! I was hooked from that moment on....
Some years later, Skrållan was no longer with us, we took in a lovely cat named Festus. He was approximately 3 years old at the time and had lived with one of our neighbours. When she decided to move, she found that she wouldn't bother taking her cat with her and so left him to fend for himself. My mother beeing the cat lover that she is, decided that it was too bad that the beautiful cat was left hungry out in the cold, so she took him in, despite the fact that she now had a new tortie and white cat named Skrållan(II). This time I took the cat to a show and had him acknowledged as a Forest Cat. Unfortunately (for me!) Festus didn't like shows, so he only went on two! Whereafter I decided that he was better off being at home where he could stay outdoors and chase the mice and the birds. Festus went out as usual one day (he was 13 years of age), never to return.
It wasn't until many years after the first Skrållan that I finally bought my first Forest Cat. I had to get my education (did something as "uncatly" as a degree in Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire, UK) and a job first, of course!
Well, my first cat was a beautiful, white queen from the breeder of (N)Catline.
She was six weeks old and I loved her from the moment I saw her!
